2024 Fishing and Dive Competition

Saturday 9th to Sunday 17th March 2024

Rules:

  • Contact South Taranaki Coastguard VHF5 (both sides of the bar) when leaving & returning
  • Boats must be launched off the Patea Boat Ramp
  • Fish weigh in time is 2.00pm to 6.00pm, if earlier contact Brenda Kelsen on 027 443 2877. People wanting to weigh in fish MUST be in front of the Weight Master (fish in hand) BEFORE 6pm. No exceptions.
  • Final weigh in is on prize giving day Saturday 17th March at 1.00pm
  • Skipper must be a current financial member
  • Every fish that is caught must be caught using rod and reel ONLY. No long lines, nets or spear gun allow
  • Entry fee is $50 per adult and $30 for children who are 16 years of age or under (as 1st Jan)
  • All crew must be registered on entry form
  • Every fish that is weighed in MUST be signed for by the person that caught it
  • Crew members do not have to be club members, however the Skipper must be a current club member
  • One fish per species a day may be weighed and recorded for the categories except The Big Four (one fish per species)
  • One prize per person per species
  • Crayfish can only be caught by diving only
  • If any boat is caught with undersize fish on board, all crew will be disqualified from the competition. Boats may be inspected by MPI
  • No launching before 7am and boats must be back BEFORE 6pm. We recommend boats be back early to avoid congestion at weigh in. Anyone caught any earlier then the start time may be disqualified from the competition
  • The Bar and Food open at 12pm with the prize giving commencing at 1pm on Sunday 17th March at the Patea Boating Club’s clubroom
  • Club trophies will be fished for by financial members
  • Life jackets MUST be worn at all time while crossing the bar
  • Any fish donated to the local community will be very much appreciated


It is the Skipper of the boat who is to be responsible for his crew’s safety and well being during the tournament week while on the water, the Patea Boating club takes no responsibility for injuries or accidents to participants during tournament week.

  • Heaviest – Snapper, Cod, Gurnard, Kingfish, Kahawai, Crayfish, Trevally & Terakihi
  • The BIG FOUR (Snapper, Cod, Kingfish and Kahawai)
  • NO SHARKS TO BE WEIGHED IN
  • Heaviest Ladies Fish (Snapper, Cod, Gurnard, Kahawai, Trevally and Terakihi ONLY)
  • Heaviest Childs Fish (Snapper / Cod / Kahawai) (Children’s category participants must be 16 years of age or under as at 1st Jan)
